A disc is rolling (without slipping) on a frictionless surface. C is its centre, and Q and P are two points equidistant from C, as shown. Let $V_P$, $V_Q$ and $V_C$ be the magnitudes of the velocities of points P, Q and C respectively. Then
Answer: (A) $V_Q > V_C > V_P$
In rolling without slipping, every point moves as if rotating about the contact point with angular speed $\omega$, so its speed is $\omega \times$ (its distance from the contact point).
Q is above C, so it is farther from the contact point than C. P is below C, so it is nearer. Hence
$$V_Q > V_C > V_P$$
