Which graph corresponds to an object moving with a constant negative acceleration and a positive velocity?
Answer: (C) see figure
With constant acceleration $-a$ and initial velocity $u$, as a function of distance:
$$v^2 = u^2 - 2ax$$
So $v$ decreases with $x$, and its slope $\dfrac{dv}{dx} = -\dfrac{a}{v}$ becomes steeper as $v$ becomes smaller, reaching a vertical tangent where $v = 0$ at $x = \dfrac{u^2}{2a}$. The curve is concave down and falls steeply to the distance axis: graph (3).
