For the given figures, choose the correct options:
Answer: (A) The rms current in circuit (b) can never be larger than that in (a)
In (a), $I_a=\dfrac{V}{R}$. In (b), $I_b=\dfrac{V}{\sqrt{R^2+(X_L-X_C)^2}}\le\dfrac{V}{R}$.
The two are equal only at resonance ($X_L=X_C$); otherwise $I_b<I_a$. Hence the current in (b) can never exceed that in (a).
