Q 11-14-133JEE MainJEE Main 2018 (16 Apr, Shift 1)Easy
The end correction of a resonance column is $1\ \text{cm}$. If the shortest length resonating with the tuning fork is $10\ \text{cm}$, the next resonating length should be
Answer: (A) $32\ \text{cm}$
A resonance column behaves as a closed pipe. With end correction $e$:
$$L_1 + e = \frac\lambda4 \;\Rightarrow\; \frac\lambda4 = 11\ \text{cm}$$
$$L_2 + e = \frac{3\lambda}{4} = 33\ \text{cm} \;\Rightarrow\; L_2 = 32\ \text{cm}$$
