Q 11-11-050JEE MainJEE Main 2025 (23 Jan, Shift 1)Easy
An ideal gas initially at $0^\circ\text{C}$ temperature is compressed suddenly to one fourth of its volume. If the ratio of specific heat at constant pressure to that at constant volume is $3/2$, the change in temperature due to the thermodynamic process is ______ K.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 273
A sudden compression is adiabatic: $TV^{\gamma-1} = \text{constant}$.
$$T_2 = T_1\left(\frac{V_1}{V_2}\right)^{\gamma-1} = 273\times4^{1/2} = 546\ \text{K}$$
$\Delta T = 546 - 273 = 273\ \text{K}$
