A thermodynamic system is taken through the cyclic process $ABC$ as shown in the figure. The total work done by the system during the cycle $ABC$ is ______ J.

Answer: 300
The work done in a cycle equals the area enclosed on the $P$–$V$ diagram. Here the cycle is a right triangle:
$$W = \frac12\times(5-2)\times(300-100) = \frac12\times3\times200 = 300\ \text{J}$$
The cycle $A\to B\to C\to A$ is traversed clockwise (expansion at the higher pressure), so the net work done by the system is positive: $300$ J.
