Q 12-14-198JEE MainJEE Main 2018 (16 Apr, Shift 1)Medium
In the given circuit the current through zener diode is:
Answer: (A) $3.3\ \text{mA}$
Without the zener, the voltage across $R_2$ would be
$$15\times\frac{1500}{2000} = 11.25\ \text{V} > 10\ \text{V}$$
so the zener is in breakdown and holds $V_{BA} = 10\ \text{V}$.
Current through $R_1$: $\dfrac{15 - 10}{500} = 10\ \text{mA}$.
Current through $R_2$: $\dfrac{10}{1500} = 6.67\ \text{mA}$.
Zener current:
$$10 - 6.67 = 3.3\ \text{mA}$$
