Q 12-14-186JEE MainJEE Main 2019 (11 Jan, Shift 1)Medium
In the given circuit the current through Zener Diode is close to:
Answer: (A) $0.0$ mA
Suppose the Zener does not conduct. The voltage across the $1500\ \Omega$ resistor (with the load $R_2$ also in parallel it is even less) is at most
$$12\times\frac{1500}{500 + 1500} = 9\ \text{V}$$
This is below the breakdown voltage $V_Z = 10$ V, so the Zener stays off and the current through it is $0$.
