Two p-n junction diodes $D_1$ and $D_2$ are connected as shown in figure. $A$ and $B$ are input signals and $C$ is the output. The given circuit will function as a ______.
Answer: (A) AND Gate
The anodes of both diodes are joined at the output $C$, which is pulled up to $+5$ V through $R$; the cathodes are at the inputs.
- If any input is $0$ V, that diode is forward biased and clamps $C$ to (about) $0$ V → output 0.
- Only when both $A$ and $B$ are at $5$ V are both diodes off, no current flows through $R$, and $C = 5$ V → output 1.
Output is 1 only when both inputs are 1: an **AND gate**.
