Assuming in forward bias condition there is a voltage drop of 0.7 V across a silicon diode, the current through diode $D_1$ in the circuit is ______ mA .
(Assume all diodes in the given circuit are identical)
Answer: (B) 18.8
$D_1$ and $D_3$ are forward biased; $D_2$ is reverse biased and carries no current. The parallel diodes hold the voltage across them at $0.7$ V.
Current through $R_1$:
$$I = \frac{12 - 0.7}{300} = \frac{11.3}{300}\ \text{A} = 37.67\ \text{mA}$$
The identical diodes $D_1$ and $D_3$ share it equally:
$$I_{D_1} = \frac{37.67}{2} \approx 18.8\ \text{mA}$$
