Which of the following nuclear fragments corresponding to nuclear fission between a neutron $\left({}^1_0\text{n}\right)$ and the uranium isotope $\left({}^{235}_{92}\text{U}\right)$ is correct?
Answer: (B) ${}^{144}_{56}\text{Ba} + {}^{89}_{36}\text{Kr} + 3\,{}^1_0\text{n}$
Initially: mass number $235 + 1 = 236$, charge number $92$.
(B): $144 + 89 + 3 = 236$ and $56 + 36 = 92$. Both balance.
(A) gives mass number 237; (C) gives charge number 94 (and xenon has $Z = 54$, not 56); (D) gives mass number 255.
