The velocity-time graph of an object moving along a straight line is shown in the figure. What is the distance covered by the object between $t = 0$ and $t = 4\ \text{s}$?
Answer: (A) $30\ \text{m}$
Distance = area under the $v$–$t$ graph from $0$ to $4\ \text{s}$:
- $0$ to $2\ \text{s}$ (triangle): $\tfrac{1}{2}\times2\times10 = 10\ \text{m}$
- $2$ to $4\ \text{s}$ (rectangle): $2\times10 = 20\ \text{m}$
Total $= 30\ \text{m}$
