Q 11-04-077JEE MainJEE Main 2024 (5 Apr, Shift 1)Easy
Three blocks $M_1$, $M_2$, $M_3$ having masses $4\ \text{kg}$, $6\ \text{kg}$ and $10\ \text{kg}$ respectively are hanging from a smooth pulley using ropes 1, 2 and 3 as shown in the figure. The tension in rope 1, $T_1$, when they are moving upward with an acceleration of $2\ \text{m s}^{-2}$ is ______ N (take $g = 10\ \text{m/s}^2$).
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 240
Rope 1 supports all three blocks, which move up together:
$$T_1 - (4 + 6 + 10)g = (4 + 6 + 10)a \Rightarrow T_1 = 20\times(10 + 2) = 240\ \text{N}$$
