Two simple harmonic waves having equal amplitudes of $8\ \text{cm}$ and equal frequency of $10\ \text{Hz}$ are moving along the same direction. The resultant amplitude is also $8\ \text{cm}$. The phase difference between the individual waves is ______ degree.

Answer: 120
Resultant amplitude of two equal waves: $A_R=2a\cos\dfrac{\phi}{2}$.
$$8=2\times8\cos\frac{\phi}{2}\ \Rightarrow\ \cos\frac{\phi}{2}=\frac12\ \Rightarrow\ \phi=120^\circ$$
