An interference pattern is obtained with two coherent light sources of intensity ratio $4 : 1$. And the ratio $\dfrac{I_{\max} + I_{\min}}{I_{\max} - I_{\min}}$ is $\dfrac5x$. Then, the value of $x$ will be equal to:
Answer: (B) 4
Amplitude ratio $2 : 1$, so $I_{\max}\propto(2+1)^2 = 9$ and $I_{\min}\propto(2-1)^2 = 1$.
$$\frac{9+1}{9-1} = \frac{10}{8} = \frac54\ \Rightarrow\ x = 4$$
