Q 11-10-066JEE MainJEE Main 2023 (24 Jan, Shift 1)Easy
A hole is drilled in a metal sheet. At $27^\circ\text{C}$, the diameter of hole is $5\ \text{cm}$. When the sheet is heated to $177^\circ\text{C}$, the change in the diameter of hole is $d\times10^{-3}\ \text{cm}$. The value of $d$ will be ______, if coefficient of linear expansion of the metal is $1.6\times10^{-5}/^\circ\text{C}$.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 12
The hole expands like the metal: $\Delta D=D\alpha\Delta T=5\times1.6\times10^{-5}\times150=0.012\ \text{cm}=12\times10^{-3}\ \text{cm}$.
