A body of mass $M$ thrown horizontally with velocity $v$ from the top of a tower of height $H$ touches the ground at a distance of $100\ \text{m}$ from the foot of the tower. A body of mass $2M$ thrown at a velocity $\dfrac v2$ from the top of a tower of height $4H$ will touch the ground at a distance of ______ m.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 100
Horizontal range $R = v\sqrt{\dfrac{2H}{g}}$ (independent of mass).
$$R' = \frac v2\sqrt{\frac{2(4H)}{g}} = \frac v2\times2\sqrt{\frac{2H}{g}} = R = 100\ \text{m}$$
