Q 11-09-065JEE MainJEE Main 2024 (27 Jan, Shift 1)Easy
Given below are two statements:
Statement (I): Viscosity of gases is greater than that of liquids.
Statement (II): Surface tension of a liquid decreases due to the presence of insoluble impurities.
In the light of the above statements, choose the most appropriate answer from the options given below:
Answer: (B) Statement I is incorrect but Statement II is correct
Gases have much lower viscosity than liquids (for example, air about $1.8\times10^{-5}\ \text{Pa s}$ against water about $10^{-3}\ \text{Pa s}$), so Statement I is incorrect.
Insoluble impurities (such as oil or soap films on the surface) lower the surface tension of a liquid, so Statement II is correct.
