Q 11-12-036JEE MainJEE Main 2025 (28 Jan, Shift 1)Easy
For a particular ideal gas, which of the following graphs represents the variation of mean squared velocity of the gas molecules with temperature?
Answer: (B) see figure
From kinetic theory, $\dfrac{1}{2}m\overline{v^2} = \dfrac{3}{2}kT$, so
$$\overline{v^2} = \frac{3kT}{m} \propto T$$
The mean squared velocity is directly proportional to the absolute temperature: a straight line through the origin, graph (2).
