Q 12-06-055JEE MainJEE Main 2024 (29 Jan, Shift 2)Easy
A horizontal straight wire $5\ \text{m}$ long extending from east to west is falling freely at right angle to the horizontal component of earth's magnetic field $0.60\times10^{-4}\ \text{Wb m}^{-2}$. The instantaneous value of emf induced in the wire when its velocity is $10\ \text{m s}^{-1}$ is ______ $\times10^{-3}\ \text{V}$.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 3
The wire, its velocity (vertical) and $B_H$ (horizontal, north-south) are mutually perpendicular:
$$\varepsilon = B_Hvl = 0.60\times10^{-4}\times10\times5 = 3\times10^{-3}\ \text{V}$$
