Which of the following phenomena can not be explained by wave theory of light?
Answer: (A) Compton effect
Reflection, refraction and diffraction are all explained by the wave theory.
In the Compton effect, X-rays scattered by electrons come out with a longer wavelength that depends on the scattering angle. This is explained only by treating light as photons carrying energy $h\nu$ and momentum $h/\lambda$ that collide with electrons.
