Q 12-07-093JEE MainJEE Main 2022 (24 Jun, Shift 2)Easy
Given below are two statements:
Statement I: The reactance of an ac circuit is zero. It is possible that the circuit contains a capacitor and an inductor.
Statement II: In an ac circuit, the average power delivered by the source never becomes zero.
In the light of the above statements, choose the correct answer from the options given below.
Answer: (C) Statement I is true but Statement II is false.
Statement I is true: in an LC (or LCR) circuit at resonance $X_L = X_C$, so the net reactance $X_L - X_C = 0$.
Statement II is false: for a purely inductive or purely capacitive circuit the power factor $\cos\phi = 0$, so the average power is zero.
