Q 11-14-104JEE MainJEE Main 2020 (2 Sep, Shift 1)Easy
Two identical strings $X$ and $Z$ made of same material have tension $T_X$ and $T_Z$ in them. If their fundamental frequencies are $450\ \text{Hz}$ and $300\ \text{Hz}$, respectively, then the ratio $T_X/T_Z$ is:
Answer: (A) $2.25$
For identical strings (same length and mass per unit length), $f = \dfrac{1}{2L}\sqrt{\dfrac{T}{\mu}} \propto \sqrt{T}$.
$$\frac{T_X}{T_Z} = \left(\frac{450}{300}\right)^{2} = 2.25$$
