The diodes $D_1$ and $D_2$ are connected from the base-side junction to ground. The $5$ V cell would raise that junction above ground, so the diodes conduct and (being ideal) clamp it at $0$ V.
So the base of the transistor is at $0$ V, the same as the emitter: $V_{BE} = 0$ and the transistor is cut off.
No collector current flows, so there is no drop across the collector resistor $R$, and $V_0 = 5$ V.
