Choose the correct waveform that can represent the voltage across $R$ of the following circuit, assuming the diode is ideal one:

The $3$ V battery opposes forward current, so the ideal diode conducts only when $v_i > 3$ V.
When $v_i > 3$ V, current flows and a voltage appears across $R$; for the rest of the cycle the diode is off and the voltage across $R$ is zero.
So only the part of the input above the $+3$ V level appears across $R$, as in waveform (1).
