**Assertion A:** Earth has atmosphere whereas moon doesn't have any atmosphere.
**Reason R:** The escape velocity on moon is very small as compared to that on earth.

Gas molecules move with speeds comparable to the moon's small escape speed ($\approx2.4\ \text{km s}^{-1}$), so they escape and the moon keeps no atmosphere. R explains A.
