A condenser of $2\ \mu\text{F}$ capacitance is charged steadily from $0$ to $5\ \text{C}$. Which of the following graphs represents correctly the variation of potential difference $V$ across its plates with respect to the charge $Q$ on the condenser?
Answer: (A) see figure
$V = \dfrac QC$ is linear in $Q$. At $Q = 5\ \text{C}$: $V = \dfrac{5}{2\times10^{-6}} = 2.5\times10^6\ \text{V}$.
So the graph is a straight line from the origin to $(5\ \text{C}, 2.5\times10^6\ \text{V})$, which is graph (1).
