Q 12-01-090JEE MainJEE Main 2023 (1 Feb, Shift 1)Easy
Let $\sigma$ be the uniform surface charge density of two infinite thin plane sheets shown in figure. Then the electric fields in three different regions $E_I$, $E_{II}$ and $E_{III}$ are
Answer: (D) $\vec E_I=-\dfrac{\sigma}{\epsilon_0}\hat n,\ \vec E_{II}=0,\ \vec E_{III}=\dfrac{\sigma}{\epsilon_0}\hat n$
Each sheet gives $\dfrac{\sigma}{2\epsilon_0}$ directed away from it. Between the sheets the two fields cancel; outside they add to $\dfrac\sigma{\epsilon_0}$, pointing away from the pair ($-\hat n$ in region I, $+\hat n$ in region III).
