The electric field at a point P on the axis of a short electric dipole, at a distance $r$ from its centre O, is $E$. The electric field at a point R on the equatorial line, at a distance $2r$ from O, will be $\dfrac{E}{x}$. The value of $x$ is ______.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 16
Axial point: $E = \dfrac{2kp}{r^3}$.
Equatorial point at $2r$: $E_R = \dfrac{kp}{(2r)^3} = \dfrac{kp}{8r^3} = \dfrac{E}{16}$. So $x = 16$.
