In the given circuit the cells have zero internal resistance. The currents (in amperes) passing through resistance $R_1$ and $R_2$ respectively, are:
Answer: (C) $0.5,\ 0$
Take the top wire as $0\ \text{V}$. The left vertical wire connects it to the negative terminal of the left cell, so the junction between the two cells (bottom end of $R_1$) is at $+10\ \text{V}$.
$R_1$ has $10\ \text{V}$ across it: $I_1 = \dfrac{10}{20} = 0.5\ \text{A}$.
Going from that junction through the right cell (positive to negative) the potential falls by $10\ \text{V}$, so the bottom of $R_2$ is at $0\ \text{V}$, the same as its top. Hence $I_2 = 0$.
