Q 12-10-165JEE MainJEE Main 2025 (7 Apr, Shift 1)Easy
Two plane polarized light waves (with the same plane of polarization) combine at a certain point, and their electric field components are $E_1 = E_0\sin\omega t$ and $E_2 = E_0\sin\left(\omega t + \dfrac\pi3\right)$. Find the amplitude of the resultant wave.
Answer: (C) $1.7E_0$
Adding two oscillations of the same frequency with phase difference $\phi = \pi/3$:
$$E = \sqrt{E_0^2 + E_0^2 + 2E_0^2\cos\frac\pi3} = \sqrt{3}\,E_0 \approx 1.73E_0$$
