Q 12-10-066JEE MainJEE Main 2024 (8 Apr, Shift 1)Easy
A parallel beam of monochromatic light of wavelength $600\ \text{nm}$ passes through a single slit of $0.4\ \text{mm}$ width. Angular divergence corresponding to second order minima would be ______ $\times10^{-3}\ \text{rad}$.
Numerical value type. Enter your answer.
Answer: 6
The second minima on either side are at $\theta = \pm\dfrac{2\lambda}{a}$, so the angular divergence between them is
$$2\theta = \frac{4\lambda}{a} = \frac{4\times600\times10^{-9}}{0.4\times10^{-3}} = 6\times10^{-3}\ \text{rad}$$
