An ideal gas expands from volume $V$ to $2V$ once isothermally and once adiabatically, starting from the same state. Which statement is correct?
Answer: (C) More work is done in the isothermal expansion
On a P-V diagram the adiabat falls more steeply than the isotherm from the same starting point, so it encloses less area under it. More work is done in the isothermal expansion (heat flows in and keeps the pressure higher).
