The time taken by a particle in SHM of period $T$ to go from the extreme position to half the amplitude is
Answer: (C) $\dfrac{T}{6}$
From the extreme, $x = A\cos\omega t = \dfrac{A}{2} \Rightarrow \omega t = \dfrac{\pi}{3} \Rightarrow t = \dfrac{T}{6}$.
(Near the extreme the particle moves slowly, so this takes longer than the $\dfrac{T}{12}$ needed from the mean position.)
