The velocity-time graph of a particle moving along a straight line is shown in the figure. The displacement and the distance travelled by the particle in $6$ s are respectively
Answer: (A) $8$ m, $20$ m
The area under a $v$-$t$ graph gives displacement, counting area below the axis as negative.
$0$ to $2$ s: $5 \times 2 = +10$ m. $2$ to $4$ s: $-3 \times 2 = -6$ m. $4$ to $6$ s: $2 \times 2 = +4$ m.
Displacement $= 10 - 6 + 4 = 8$ m.
Distance adds the magnitudes: $10 + 6 + 4 = 20$ m.
