A force of $10$ N acts on a charged particle placed between two plates of a charged capacitor. If one plate of capacitor is removed, then the force acting on that particle will be.
Answer: (A) $5$ N
Between the plates of a charged capacitor, each plate contributes $\dfrac{\sigma}{2\varepsilon_0}$, giving a total field $\dfrac{\sigma}{\varepsilon_0}$.
With one plate removed, only $\dfrac{\sigma}{2\varepsilon_0}$ remains: half the field.
So the force becomes $\dfrac{10}{2} = 5$ N.
