From the circuit given below, the capacitance between terminals $A$ and $B$ shown in the circuit is ______ $\mu$F.
(take $C_1 = C_2 = C_3 = 1\,\mu$F and $C_4 = 2\,\mu$F.)
Answer: (A) $2$
Label the junction between $C_1$ and $C_2$ as $Q$. The wire over the top joins the left plate of $C_1$ to the junction between $C_2$ and $C_3$, so both of those points are at $A$.
- Between $A$ and $Q$: $C_1$ and $C_2$ in parallel, $2\,\mu$F.
- Between $Q$ and $B$: $C_4 = 2\,\mu$F.
- Between $A$ and $B$ directly: $C_3 = 1\,\mu$F.
$2\,\mu$F in series with $2\,\mu$F gives $1\,\mu$F, which is in parallel with $C_3$: $C_{AB} = 1 + 1 = 2\,\mu$F.
